When my wife Sherry and I retired, we moved to the Texas Hill Country to be closer to our children and grandchildren. Retirement didn’t mean slowing down for me—I’ve always loved working with my hands and have a deep appreciation for unique, handmade things. What began as a hobby—making pieces for family, friends, and neighbors—quickly grew into Over the Hill Handmade Creations, thanks to their encouragement and support.
Every piece I make is truly one of a kind. Nothing is mass produced. I let the wood guide me, working with its natural character to bring out something special. I often say: nothing I make is perfect, but everything is special.
Materials
I source my slabs from a local wood yard at Canyon Lake, working with Mesquite, Pecan, Hackberry, Walnut, Chinaberry, and Elm. After purchase, the slabs dry for nearly a year before I begin leveling and sanding. Most pieces are live edge, with natural bug trails and cracks that I fill with colored epoxy to stabilize and enhance their beauty.
What I Make
- Charcuterie boards, cutting boards, and serving trays – Finished with a food-safe oil/wax blend for a water-resistant, long-lasting protective coating. These boards are built to last for generations.
- Wall art and décor – Live edge wood with unique epoxy enhancements.
- Coasters – Often made from repurposed materials, some laser-engraved with military logos, college team logos, or wildlife designs. Around the holidays, I also make epoxy resin coasters with miniature Christmas décor.
- Custom laser engraving – From family heirlooms like your grandmother’s handwritten recipe to personalized gifts.
I may be “Over the Hill,” but I’m certainly not “Out to Pasture.”
Please stop by and take a look—Sherry and I would love to meet you!
